Drag Queen Eddy

This is a friend of mine from school in drag. He was performing on stage, under stage lights, about 15 feet from where I was seated, in the complete dark. On top of that, he was dancing and moving around (anywhere from 15 to 40 feet away).

I was shooting on a NIKON D3000 with a 70-300mm zoom manual lens. I really like the way the light highlights his hair and the extreme cripness of the shot... You can even see some of the stray hairs from the wig. To get the shot, I zoomed in and put the flash on to shoot at the beginning of the shutter closing.

Can you believe the depth of color in the shot? His skin is very warm from the lights, but you can still see the detail on the black feathers on his boa. They even pop out from the solid black background.

Oh and for those of you looking for a good how-to website for DSLR cameras, check out this one: www.cambridgeincolour.com/tutorials.htm
